We partner with local 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers throughout the area to do the Kids’ Art Project every spring. This year’s theme was “How to Change the World“, and we asked students in these grades to draw how they want to change the world and what they see making a difference. Each class votes for its own three favorite submissions and sets them aside for United Way’s Board of Directors to narrow it down to their top 10 entries. After the top 10 are selected, they are posted on our Facebook page for public vote. Once all the votes were tallied this year, the improbably happened – all three of the top artists were in Mrs. Jones’ 5th Grade Class at Four Georgians Elementary!
We were joined by family and friends for a pizza party to celebrate in the classroom and we had a special celebrity guest – Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney! Congratulations to this year’s top artists! They worked hard to come up with great ideas and observations, and it was difficult to narrow down the field with 1,100 entries this year. Way to go, Kate Drynan, our first place winner, Jack Gollehan, our second place winner, and Carter Slead, our third place winner! You all did awesome.
Special thanks to Pizza Hut for generously donating pizza, Helena Motors for graciously providing a monetary contribution for each of the winners, Suzi Stanger (a board member and representative of Helena Motors) for helping to make this year’s Kids Art Project possible, and Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney for working us into your schedule to make this a great celebration!
