Goal: Ensure children are school-ready.

In our area, only 53% of 3-5 year old children are read to daily.  This can impact their reading skills and reduce their success in academics and life.

Local volunteers serve as Book Pals for students at area schools to spend time reading with them during breakfast on campus at area Title I schools.  This attention outside the classroom helps students develop stronger reading skills and have higher academic achievement.  Book Pals are also active throughout the summer, reading with children who benefit from the Summer Meals Program (which provides a free lunch 5 days a week through the summer for children 18 and younger).

In addition to the in-school reading program with Book Pals, children and their families can participate in four family activities throughout the year.  These events help children and their caregivers have stronger relationships that enhance growth and development for a bright future.

Together, we are preparing kids to succeed and giving them the tools to become tomorrow’s leaders.
